Job Description

The Senior Counsel, Operations – Greater China & Mongolia is an in-house attorney who mainly covers the legal matters regarding hotel operations, managing the on-going contract relationship for Hilton’s managed and franchised hotels and general commercial agreements in Greater China & Mongolia (GCM), provides legal support to human resources matters and manages dispute resolutions at corporate level.


What will I be doing?


As the Senior Counsel, Operations – GCM, you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:

·       Provide practical, timely and high-quality legal support for hotel operational matters and maintenance of the ongoing contractual relationship with property owners for managed and franchised hotels in GCM, through close collaboration with various Hilton operation and development teams.

·       Drafting, negotiation, or counseling on business-critical matters in a manner consistent with Hilton policies, procedures, forms and best practice of legal service, and / or work with outside counsel to provide legal advice on ad hoc projects or where business partners need.

·       Provide legal support  for the pre-opening of hotels in GCM and handle all legal matters.

·       Ensure high standard of local support for other legal areas, including Development & Retention, Human Resources, Compliance, Commercial Services, Dispute Resolution, and partnering with Legal Department colleagues in APAC and US where needed.

·       Develop and implement legal strategies for legal operation matters which are of high risk / significant value, or the common legal issues arise from multiple GCM hotels.

·       Develop and maintain the standard forms of operational and commercial contracts in adherence to global contract templates (if any), and addresses issues regarding implementation and negotiation of standardized form contracts.

·       Formulate training program for business partners, identify, plan and implement additional self-service programs for hotels to help themselves on recurring matters wherever possible.

What are we looking for?



A Senior Counsel, Operations – GCM is always working on behalf of our Guests and working with other Team Members. To successfully fill this role, you should maintain the attitude, behaviours, skills, and values that follow:

·       Law degree from PRC, preferable master or above.

·       Admission to China BAR.

·       Minimum 12 years of post-admission experience as a corporate / commercial lawyer, preferably with a mix of private practice and in-house experience in multinational companies.

·       Rich experience in managing and conducting litigation and arbitration.

·       Experience in working in cross-cultural environment.

·       Strong business acumen for sense to comply with applicable laws, company policies, and the highest standards of professional responsibility, ethics and integrity.

·       Excellent communication skills, analytical skills and influential skills, with ability to create and maintain strong relations across the organization and hotel management teams.

·       Generalist knowledge covering contract negotiation, employment issues, litigation, intellectual properties, and handling government investigations.

·       Able to work independently and as a leader of a workgroup.

·       Able to work under high pressure.

·       Strong problem-solving skills, including ability to effectively address any issue in collaboration with others (business partners and outside counsels) as appropriate; ability to proactively identify and prevent potential problems.

·       Able to travel up to 10% of the time.

·       Prior exposure to hospitality industry or hotel operations work is preferred.
